Beldam was a professional photographer and the first practitioner to properly capture sportsmen in action. Before he came on the scene "real action" shots were largely posed. For this book he captured in action the great batsmen of the day, while Fry supplied the descriptions of each stroke and dissected the techniques involved.
First Edition. Large 8vo. xiv + 716pp. Frontispiece (tissue-guard, browned), 600 action photographs. Top edges gilt. Full dark green Nigerian goat skin, gold leaf borders to covers, raised bands to the spine, title in gold leaf on the spine. Handmade marbled end-papers. A superb copy of this classic title.
