Lord's, Aug 17 - 19, 1938. Middlesex won by 10 wickets. Compton's 180 not out (his highest score at the time) enabled Middlesex to tower over Essex's puny total, and although O'Connor's hundred underscored a better Essex effort second time around, victory for Middlesex was a formality.
