Lord's, July 5 - 7, 1939. Players won by 160 runs. With Stephenson injured in the first innings and Wyatt in the second, the Gentlemen were first pummelled into submission, and then spun out by Wright with 4 for 72 - off just 9 overs. Earlier Gimblett, Dollery, Hutton and Compton made half-centuries for the Players, with only Bartlett replying in kind.
