Walley BARNES

Walley Barnes (1920-75) played for Arsenal 1943-56 and won the first of his 22 caps for Wales in 1947. He went on to captain his country. After football he joined the BBC and was one of the commentators, with Kenneth Wolstenholme, on the very first edition of Match of the Day in 1964.

8vo. 208pp. Portrait frontis, 14 pages of photographs. Ownership inscription to endpaper. Dust-wrapper, very good, just some minimal edgewear to detract. This copy has been signed across the front endpaper and half-title page by  23 Arsenal players of the day, including Barnes, also Lawton, Leslie Compton, Kelsey, Dodgin, Forbes, Mercer, and the manager Tom Whittaker.
