Cabinet photograph of Ned Hanlan, signed in ink 'Yours Truly, Edward Hanlan'. Hanlan (1855-1908) was crowned Canada's first international sports hero when he became world professional sculling champion in 1880. Sold with a modern First Day Cover, commemorating Hanlan, issued in Canada in 2004.

10.5 x 15.5cm. The board has been roughly trimmed along 3 sides, affecting the extreme left-hand edge of the photograph. Ink signature of RG Parry to the reverse. The photographic image is very clean, with a lovely bright and clear signature. Rare.
