Notable Events
  • New Zealand play their first Test match in January 1930. They lose to England by eight wickets at Christchurch. England’s Maurice Allom takes four wickets in five balls (including a hat-trick) on his Test debut.
  • In January 1930 Don Bradman’s 452 not out for New South Wales v Queensland at Sydney breaks the record for the highest first-class record score. A few months later he makes his first tour of England and breaks Hammond’s one year-old record by scoring 974 runs in the five Ashes Tests (still a record for any Test series). Australia regain the Ashes with a 2-1 series victory. The five Test matches are the first in England to be played over four days.
