  • Australia regain the Ashes in 1974-75, winning the series 4-1 helped by the fearsome pace bowling of Lillee and Thomson. Australia then retain the Ashes in England in 1975, winning the series 1-0. The Leeds Test is abandoned on the final day after the pitch is vandalised overnight.
  • In June 1975 West Indies win the first men’s World Cup, beating Australia in the final at Lord’s with their captain Clive Lloyd making a century.
  • Leicestershire, captained by Ray Illingworth, win the County Championship for the first time in 1975.
