Wisden introduced dust jackets in 1965, but until they were laminated in 1993 they were not especially hard-wearing. This laminated jacket can either replace one that is lost or protect an existing one.

Notable Events
  • A year after retaining the Ashes England return to Australia for a three-Test series for which the Ashes are not at stake. Australia, with its Packer players back in the team, wins all three Tests.
  • Ian Botham scores 114 and takes 13 wickets as England win the Golden Jubilee Test against India at Bombay.
  • In a notably bad-tempered series New Zealand beat West Indies 1–0 in 1979-80 after winning the Dunedin Test by one wicket. It was New Zealand’s first series victory at home and West Indies’ last defeat in any Test series until 1994-95.
  • The 1980 “Centenary Test” is played at Lord’s to mark 100 years of Test cricket in England. Rain spoils the game, which was also marred by a clash between angry MCC members and the umpires after a lengthy stoppage.
  • John Arlott makes his last radio commentary at the Centenary Test.
