Handwritten letter from Alfred Hamersley to Captain Mark Weyland, the owner of Woodeaton Manor House, dated 1909. Hamersley had, by this time, returned to England and was looking to rent the Manor House from Captain Weyland.

Alfred Hamersley played in England's first ever international match in 1871 and became England's second captain in 1874, just before emigrating to New Zealand. In New Zealand he helped establish the game on the South Island and was one of the founders of the South Canterbury Rugby Union. Later in life he was also instrumental in developing the game in British Colombia.
