Cricket reminiscences of Richard Gorton Barlow (1851-1919), the Lancashire and England cricketer. Barlow was one of the first "stonewallers" for Lancs from 1871 to 1891, and formed a famous opening partneship with AN Hornby, a big hitter. Twice in 1882 he batted two and a half hours for five runs. His solid batting was crucial in winning two Tests against Australia – at Lord's in 1884 and at Old Trafford in 1886. This book offers recollections of players and matches during the late 19th century and a veritable smorgasbord of other cricketing data including images of old scorecards and cricket balls and bats. It also has the facsimiles signatures of over 300 cricketers of the period, including those of touring sides from South Africa, Australia and West Indies, also umpires.

First edition. 8vo. xi + 255pp. Portrait frontispiece, 42 photographs, illustrations and cartoons throughout the text. Original dark green cloth with gilt imprint of Barlow with his bat under his arm on the front, gilt titles, spine sl faded and rubbed. A very good copy.
