"On Saturday, 20th May 1911, at Hove, E. B. [Edwin Boaler] Alletson, batting for Notts against Sussex, scored 189 in 90 minutes; he made the last 142 of his runs in 40 minutes. This is the most remarkable sustained hitting innings ever played in first-class cricket" - John Arlott (1957) This is Arlott's account of that incredible innings.

First Edition. Small 8vo. 40pp. 4 plates, fold-out chart. Original green cloth with good dust wrapper. With a signed dedication from the author 'Joe - I should like, one day, to follow this with "Hardstaff's Innings" - the one at Lord's; but, for the record, I ought to say what was most remarkable about it - and you have my word that I won't.' The note continues and is signed nicely by Arlott at the end. He is referring to Hardstaff's 205 not out at Lord's in 1946, but the rest of the dedication  is a little cryptic!
