Original sepia cricket photograph, by F. Cooke of Tonbridge. The Butterflies Cricket Club was founded in 1862 by Arthur Wilson and A.G.Guillemard, Rugbeians who had not won 1st XI colours. In 1864 membership was extended to young men who had been educated at Charterhouse, Eton, Harrow, Westminster, and Winchester. The handwritten caption hazards a date of 1866, which would make this a very early Butterflies' team.
