A collection of 8 postcards, all featuring people from the late Victorian and Edwardian eras attempting extreme and sometimes downright barmy feats of endurance. During this period it became a very popular spectator activity and attracted many eccentrics to attempt their own sometimes fanciful feats of endurance. These cards include: George M Schilling, the American who claimed to be going around the world pushing a large globe; Mlle. Florence, who was walking on top of a globe from London to Brighton; W.R. Hayes, who was trundling 2 large cart wheels from Portsmouth to Newcastle and back; Henry Bensley, who attempted in 1908 to walk around the world wearing an iron mask and pushing a pram; J. Green, the poet who walked 5,100 miles in 1889 pushing a pram; Anton Hanslian, who walked around the world pushing his wife and child in a pram; Henri Mosse, the French globetrotter; and C.W. Allen, who used Bovril to keep him going during his extreme walks.
The Allen card is postally stamped and used. All are lightly rubbed or marked but are generally in good/very good condition.
