Original Press photograph, showing the moment when a retaining wall collapsed during the FA Cup second round replay between Sheffield Wednesday and Wolverhampton Wanderers on February 4th, 1914. 75 people were injured, none fatally. The game was stopped but, once resumed, Wednesday went on to win 1-0. Along the top is printed the date and the title "Terrible Catastrophe at Owlerton". The photograph was owned by Teddy Davison, the Sheffield Wednesday and England goalkeeper, and there is a lengthy caption in his handwriting to the lower border.
Overall size 33 x 44cm (photograph 19 x 25cm). Mounted, framed and glazed. The photograph has a number of heavy creases and small areas of surface loss to the edges.However, the main image is not badly affected. Label confirming that this was part of the Teddy Davison collection is stuck to reverse. Rare item.
