JAMES J. JEFFRIES 1910 BOXING POSTCARD - "FIGHT OF THE CENTURY"

An original coloured postcard of James J. Jeffries. This postcard was sold as a souvenir in the period leading up to his famous return to the ring to fight Jack Johnson in Reno on July 4th, 1910. This was billed as "The Fight of the Century" as Jeffries came out of retirement to take up the role of 'Great White Hope' and try to recover the Heavyweight title from Johnson. In the end the fight was relatively one-sided with Johnson winning by TKO in the 15th round. The person who sent this postcard, which is post-dated July 1910 (the exact day is hard to decipher) attended the fight.

Postally used with the message in pencil " Hello, Say kid there is lots of money on Jeff. Had a fine time in Ogden. I am going to Salt Lake and Frisco then hit for home I think. Don't catch all the fish. Just got an arena ticket." Very good condition. Extremely rare.
