JAMES LILLYWHITE'S CRICKETERS' ANNUAL FOR 1883

Twelfth year of publication covering the 1882 season, including the visit of the Australians that led to the birth of 'The Ashes' .  Known as the "Red Lilly", this annual was the last of three annuals published by the Lillywhites, the others being the Companion and the Guide. It lasted for 29 editions between 1872 and 1900, with two issues of 1872. From 1885 onwards the Annual incorporated John Lillywhite's Cricketer's Companion.

Plate of the Australian Team 1882 tipped-in opposite the title-page. Original red cloth wrappers, these a little faded and now loose from main text block. Handwritten title to spine. Fair/good condition.
