The author was a brilliant all-round sportsman playing first-class cricket and international rugby for England. He was killed in the first world war and this book was published posthumously. Includes a history of the game from 1871, chapters on varsity, school, club and international rugby, plus directions for how to play each aspect of the game. Illustrations from photographs by George Beldam.

First edition. Small 8vo. xv + 296pp. Portrait frontis. (the author), 11 plates. Blue cloth, title in gilt lettering to front and spine. Rubbing to ends of spine. Front gutter is a little exposed but binding holding well. Library plate to front paste-down. A good copy of a rare book.
