The family history and autobiography of the Victorian politician and athlete who was secretary of Cambridge University Athletics Club and winner of the half-mile race at the inaugural Amateur Athletic Club Championships of 1866. Thornton was also Honorary Secretary of Middlesex CCC from 1871 to 1899, and oversaw the move to Lord's Cricket Ground.
8vo. 337pp. Cloth-covered boards. Boards lightly rubbed to edges. Minor foxing to some pages. A good copy. Signed by the author to fly-leaf with a dedication to W.D. Mackenzie, who was a contemporary at Harrow School during the 1850s.
