The Oval, August 10-12, 1899. In their first innings Yorkshire amassed 704 runs, a record against Surrey. Wainwright and Hirst put on a partnership of 340 for the 5th wicket, which was eclipsed in the Surrey reply (551 for 7) by Hayward and Abel, who put on 448 together. Match drawn.
