This copy of a classic work belonged to Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, a keen angler. After some preliminary chapters on tackle and trolling come two sections: 'Bottom and Float Fishing (with chapters on float-fishing for barbel, tench and other species) and 'Fly-fishing'. This edition was published in the same year as the second edition, which had been very well received, and the author added further material including new engravings.

 

Third edition. 8vo. xxix + 314pp. Frontispiece, 13 wood-engraved and 12 engraved plates, text illustrations. Orig. grey boards, bumped and rubbed, paper label to spine worn, rebacked. Book-plate of Neville Chamberlain to front pastedown, book-plate of John A. McKinley to rear pastedown, presentation letter to Neville Chamberlain from Samuel Aboucaya (Paris, dated 13.10.38) pasted to front free-endpaper, ownership inscription of Henry Mippidey (1821) to prelims, foxing to prelims and endpapers, some browning throughout, soiling to corners of a few pages, title-page sl. offset, corner of one plate missing, edges uncut, o/w good.
