A collection of personal recollections of cricketers, cricket and the cricket field, covering things like lob bowling, cricketing families, cricketing clergymen, hitting and hitters, slow and fast scoring. Arthur Stephen Gardiner (1860-1916) was born at Chelmsford and died in London after being knocked down by a car. A journalist all his life, for 21 years he edited the Wine Trade Review and contributed cricket articles to the Standard. It was his dying wish that the "Old Crocks" should be published, and this duly happened the year after his passing.

8vo. x + 104pp. Portrait frontispiece of the author (tissue-guard). Endpapers browned. Original olive green cloth, gilt title to front. Small cricketing motif to title-page. A very good, clean copy.
