Banquet menu for the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Football League, established in 1888.

8vo. 12 leaves with tabs. Dinner menu, messages of congratulations from Archbishop of Canterbury, Prime Minister etc. Programme of entertainment etc. The banquet was held at The King’s Hall, Holborn Restaurant, London on 30th May 1938. Satin endpapers. Maroon velvet binding with ribbon. Very good condition.

This copy belonged to Sir Joe Richards, ex Barnsley player, Football League Chairman and originator of the Football League Cup in 1960, with his name in gilt to the corner of the front cover. The brochure with tabbed index for programme of music, menu, toast list, artists list, welcome, guest list, table plan etc. Signed to the ‘autographs’ page by thirty five guests, VIPs, league chairmen etc. including Richards, George Camsell (Middlesbrough), Arthur Turner (Charlton), Harry Goslin (Bolton, died 1943), Eddie Hapgood (Arsenal), Arthur Bateman (Southampton), Raich Carter (Sunderland), Teddy Sandford (W.B.A.) etc.
