A short biography of the highly regarded West Indies international cricketer of the 1950s, with photographic illustrations. On September 7th 1959 Garry Sobers was driving his West Indian team mates Smith and Tom Dewdney from Lancashire down to London for charity cricket match when the car struck a cattle truck. Smith had been sleeping on the back seat and had been thrown forward, breaking his back. He died from his injuries three days later. Sobers was held responsible and found guilty of careless driving.

8vo. 63pp. Original stiff-card covers bound into blue-leather boards with gilt titles. A very good copy. Signed to inside cover by Garry Sobers with an inscription to the previous owner, a great collector of Caribbean cricket literature who has also recorded his purchase of the book to flyleaf and added his full name and address. It seems that the front cover is also signed by Percival Gibson, who was Bishop of Jamaica at the time and attended the funeral service. A very rare booklet.
