James John "Gentleman Jim" Corbett (1886-1933) defeated the great John L. Sullivan to become world heavyweight boxing champion in1892 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Corbett's new scientific boxing technique enabled him to dodge Sullivan's rushing attacks, and wear him down with jabs.

Later edition. 8vo. 207pp. Dust-wrapper, lightly rubbed and creased. Good condition. From the collection of Sydney Hulls, the well-known boxing reporter, with his signature inside.
