Charles Clapcott was an enthusiastic historian of golf and its rules. He was also one of the foremost golf book collectors of his day. This book represents a definite study of the early rules and the first attempt to trace the evolution of golf rules. (1816); for golf on the Links of Aberdeen (1815); Laws of Golf, as revised by Blackheath G.C. (1828); Burntisland G.C. (1828); St Andrews (1829); Musselburgh (1829 & 1834); E.B.G.S. (1838); R&A G.C. of St Andrews, as played over the Links (1842); Blackheath (1844); Thistle (1824); Perth Golfing Soc. (1825); Royal Perth Golfing Soc. (1839); R&A G.C. of St Andrews, as played over the Links (1858); Rules for the Game of Golf (1888); Local Rules for St Andrews Links.

8vo. [v] + 127pp. Handmade paper, rough edges. Bound in quarter cloth over tan boards, gilt title to the spine. Some very light internal foxing and bookplate of A.R. Russ to fly-leaf. A very good copy of this rare volume of rules of the game. Limited Edition of 500 copies. [D&M, 12400]
