Charles Clapcott was an enthusiastic historian of golf and its rules. He was also one of the foremost golf book collectors of his day. This book represents a definite study of the early rules and the first attempt to trace the evolution of golf rules. (1838); R&A G.C. of St Andrews, as played over the Links (1842); Blackheath (1844); Thistle (1824); Perth Golfing Soc. (1825); Royal Perth Golfing Soc. (1839); R&A G.C. of St Andrews, as played over the Links (1858); Rules for the Game of Golf (1888); Local Rules for St Andrews Links.
