THOMAS DOWNEY 1909 ORIGINAL GOLF CARTOON

An original ink cartoon by the celebrated illustrator Thomas Downey, dated July 10th 1909. It depicts two people on the London Tube - the female character says to her partner "My Dear! You must go and see it - she's an awful creature! - her language!! She uses - er - hm - GOLF EXPRESSIONS!" It is not known what she is referring to but his look of shock says it all.

19 x 13cm. Ink and coloured crayon on card. Pinhole to top right corner. Many light ink splashes, mainly to lower section, and the words "Garrick G.C." are written in ink below. Not signed but it is clearly in the style of Downey and his name is written to verso, as well as the date, which may be a publication date. Good condition - would frame very nicely.
