A rare and important book written by Charles "Charley" Paddock, the great American runner who won two gold medals at the 1920 Olympics. This is an instructional book, giving advice on all track and field disciplines, and written at the end of his track career. Illustrated with many photographs, mostly taken at the 1932 Olympic Games. Paddock died in a plane crash in Alaska in 1943.

First edition. 8vo. 226pp. Contained within the original dust-wrapper, which is lightly rubbed to edges and corners  with some very small closed tears. Light foxing marks to dust-wrapper. Originally from the collection of F.A.M. Webster, the noted author and coach - this has the name and address of F.R. ("Dick") Webster, his eldest son and a competitor in the Pole Vault at the 1936 and 1948 Olympics, to front pastedown. This was a review copy of the first edition, and still has the Publisher's note slipped in. An extremely rare book, particularly so in this condition and with this provenance.
