A famous account of the Gentlemen of MCC's cricket tour of North America in 1872. The team included W.G. Grace and played a series of matches in the USA and Canada where cricket was a popular sport at the time. The Author was a member of the team and later Secretary of the MCC and his account covers the social life of the team as well as the cricket matches.

1st edition. 8vo. ix + 335pp. Frontis of the author and further plate of The Twelve in Montreal. Original maroon cloth-covered boards with gilt title to spine and gilt vignette of WG Grace to front. This copy was presented to the Cambridge University and Lancashire cricketer O.P. Lancashire by A.N. Hornby (Albert Neilson), who also played for Lancashire and who was a member of this tour to America. The signature of W.M. Rose (William Molyneux), another member of the team, is laid down to front pastedown. A very good copy with lovely provenance.
