Amongst the earliest rugby titles, notable for its account of the seismic split in 1863, which saw the formation of the Football Association "under a code which Rugbeians could not afford to accept." Also contains a chapter on the effects of professionalism, by Arthur Budd. Other editions published in 1889, 1890 and 1909.

Revised Edition. 8vo. 78pp. Original illustrated boards, heavily stained. Lacking frontispiece - all other illustrations are present although some are loose. Contents are generally very good. This is a poor copy of a rare book - excellent for reference.
