George Beldam was the first photographer to take action-photographs and thus break down the various stages of technique. There are comparable works for cricket and golf.

First Edition. Large 8vo. xxix + 403pp. Frontispiece (tissue-guard), 229 action-photographs. Original green cloth with gilt figure of tennis player serving to front cover. Wear to spine and rubbed to edges. Gift inscription to flyleaf to "R. Lagden from J.R.T., American Tennis Tournament, Summerfield, 1905." The recipient may well have been Ronald Lagden, the first-class cricketer and England rugby player. Good condition.
