The Perth Golfing Society was started by a group of Perth gentlemen at a meeting on 5th April 1824 in the Salutation Inn, Scotland’s oldest hotel. Scarlet golfing jackets were donned for matches played on the South Inch and North Inch links and Sir David Moncreiffe became the first ever Club Captain. The sixth captain of the Club was Lord Kinnaird, and it was his access to royal circles that was instrumental in gaining royal patronage for the Club from King William IV in 1833. Royal Perth was the first golf club in the world to receive this honour and pre-dates The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews by a year.

Tall 8vo. [viii] + 80pp. Purple/blue cloth boards, slightly sun faded. Gilt title to upper board. Internally clean. Very scarce. [D&M, 26550]
