THE BOOK OF THE BALL

The author compares several games, trying to discover and illustrate general principles governing the behaviour of the ball. There are chapters on the "sentiment", building, natural history and science of the ball. Although the author was an accomplished tennis player (reaching the quarter-finals of Wimbledon), a range of sports are discussed, including baseball, cricket, football, bowls, tennis, golf and billiards. An important book.

First edition. 8vo. 220pp + 32pp catalogue. Original red cloth covered boards. A very good copy of a scarce book.
